Fish Processing
As one of the UKs most experienced and responsible fish processers and frozen fish suppliers, we are proud of our ethical methods, and the high quality fish products we provide.

Processing Fish for Over 30 Years

NH Case has its own fish processing site which was established in Grimsby over 30 years ago ensuring that all fish comes directly from the best suppliers and is processed in a temperature-controlled facility.
Consistent Quality
Shaping & Moulding Portions
A significant capital investment in a state of the art ‘Nienstedt’ multisaw and forming machine allows NH Case to press cores in a variety of weights and sizes. Using the highest quality fish blocks we can form cores in weights ranging from 30g through to 145g. Predominantly used in the further processing and added value sector these allow manufacturers the security of consistent quality, controlled weights and dimensions all combined with the highest quality raw material, available in cod, salmon, haddock and pollock and hoki.

Bespoke Blocks and Shapes
Bandsawing
A dedicated, experienced, highly trained and time served team enable NH Case to provide a full range of cutting options for any customer specification. From block cutting into small 15mm diced cubes, trapezoid portions, fingers and planks through to naturally shaped fillet cutting into bites, goujons, J cuts, V cuts and steaks we have the skilled operatives and equipment to provide a one-stop service for any customers requirements.

Industry Standard
Plate Freezing
A key service offered by NH Case is the ability to both supply and produce the industry-standard 7.5kg /16.5lb fish blocks. Using industry leading equipment and packaging we can offer excellent block geometry, our fully trained staff ensure fully controlled weights and product presentation devoid of freezer burn, ice or air pockets. Blocks can be sourced as fillets, pieces, mince and scrape for both salmon, cod and other whitefish species, subject to availability.

Preserving Quality
Grading & Glazing
A twin lane glazing and grading rig allows us to take bulk raw material and accurately glaze and grade to whatever our customer requires, from 5% protective glaze through to 20%, we can accurately control and pack. A spiral freezer allows for the sharp reduction in temperature preserving the overall quality of our product, available in both count and weight packs.

Traditional Smoking
Smoking Fish
Originally developed many years ago as a method of preserving food, we now offer smoked fish. Fish, mainly haddock, is traditionally slowly smoked over beech and oak wood pellets for several hours and then quickly frozen to seal in that distinct quality and gentle smoke flavouring. We can supply bespoke natural smoked haddock blocks or offer a smoking service for clients who would like their own fish smoking.

Line-Caught Quality Frozen FIsh
Ice Maid Brand
NH Case have proudly used the same Icelandic supplier for over 40 years in our Ice Maid brand. Ice Maid offers customers and consumers a real choice with prime quality, line caught MSC approved raw material supplied in 10lb/4.54kg cartons across all key sizes. A low glaze single frozen product, offering real value and real quality, comparable with the finest frozen at sea fish.

Sustainability of Fish Stocks

At NH Case we take our fish very seriously – and as experts in the industry with over 80 years’ experience of processing fish, we are as concerned as you are to make sure that the fish we process and sell is genuinely sustainable.
To that end since 2008 the company is accredited and audited by the Marine Stewardship Council to process and sell Hoki, Alaskan Pollock, Pacific Salmon, Cod, Haddock and a wide variety of other added value products.
Although MSC accreditation is probably the best-known external guarantee of sustainability, the company also adheres to Catch documentation schemes and Responsible Fishery Schemes.
Marine Stewardship Council

Marine Stewardship Council MSC accreditation is probably the best known external guarantee of sustainability. Its mission statement is to safeguard the world’s seafood supply by promoting the best environmental choice.
MSC employ marine specialists to monitor a specified fish stock and decide if that stock is sustainable. In order to be accredited, all sectors of the relevant fishery must be audited by MSC and pay a licensing fee.
Catch Documentation Schemes

All fish that NH Case sell is traceable to a government issued Catch certificate, which states exactly where and when the fish was caught and which boat was used.
The use of Catch certificates ensures that no illegally fished product can be landed or imported into the UK.
Responsible Fishery Schemes

Iceland Responsible Fisheries – The Icelandic Government has gone a step further and has introduced a licensing scheme for all participants in fish production called Icelandic Responsible Fisheries.
The scheme uses a structured fisheries management system to ensure that the nation focuses on the sustainable utilisation of the fish stocks. NH Case were involved in discussions with the Ministry of Fisheries in Iceland regarding the creation of this accreditation scheme, and are proud to have been the first UK company to be licensed and to be able to use the Icelandic Responsible Fisheries logo.
Accreditations
Mindful of limiting our carbon footprint and reducing the general environmental impact, we strive to make distribution as efficient as possible, minimise energy consumption and gas emissions from refrigeration and deal with waste and recyclable matter responsibly.
Our A-graded production facilities are accredited by the British Retail Consortium. An annual audit ensures that we meet the highest standards of food safety and comply fully with relevant legislation concerning food and food production.
NH Case hold relevant accreditations for each of these sectors as well as British Standards Institute ISO9002 and British Retail Consortium Food Certificates.
