Sustainability & Accreditations
At NH Case we take our responsibility to the environment very seriously and are committed to reaching carbon net zero by 2050.

Sustainable Fish Stocks

At NH Case we also take our fish very seriously – and as experts in the industry with over 80 years’ experience of processing fish, we are as concerned as you are to make sure that the fish we process and sell is genuinely sustainable.
To that end since 2008 the company is accredited and audited by the Marine Stewardship Council to process and sell Hoki, Alaskan Pollock, Pacific Salmon, Cod, Haddock and a wide variety of other added value products.
Although MSC accreditation is probably the best-known external guarantee of sustainability, the company also adheres to Catch documentation schemes and Responsible Fishery Schemes.
Marine Stewardship Council

Marine Stewardship Council MSC accreditation is probably the best known external guarantee of sustainability. Its mission statement is to safeguard the world’s seafood supply by promoting the best environmental choice.
MSC employ marine specialists to monitor a specified fish stock and decide if that stock is sustainable. In order to be accredited, all sectors of the relevant fishery must be audited by MSC and pay a licensing fee.
Catch Documentation Schemes

All fish that NH Case sell is traceable to a government issued Catch certificate, which states exactly where and when the fish was caught and which boat was used.
The use of Catch certificates ensures that no illegally fished product can be landed or imported into the UK.

Responsible Fishery Schemes

Iceland Responsible Fisheries – The Icelandic Government has gone a step further and has introduced a licensing scheme for all participants in fish production called Icelandic Responsible Fisheries.
The scheme uses a structured fisheries management system to ensure that the nation focuses on the sustainable utilisation of the fish stocks. NH Case were involved in discussions with the Ministry of Fisheries in Iceland regarding the creation of this accreditation scheme, and are proud to have been the first UK company to be licensed and to be able to use the Icelandic Responsible Fisheries logo.
Accreditations
Mindful of limiting our carbon footprint and reducing the general environmental impact, we strive to make distribution as efficient as possible, minimise energy consumption and gas emissions from refrigeration and deal with waste and recyclable matter responsibly.
Our A-graded production facilities are accredited by the British Retail Consortium. An annual audit ensures that we meet the highest standards of food safety and comply fully with relevant legislation concerning food and food production.
NH Case hold relevant accreditations for each of these sectors as well as British Standards Institute ISO9001 and British Retail Consortium Food Certificates.

Food for Life

A Soil Association programme of which we are proud to be a member.
The programme is about making good food the easy choice for everyone – making healthy, tasty and sustainable meals the norm for all to enjoy, reconnecting people with where their food comes from, teaching them how it’s grown and cooked, and championing the importance of well-sourced ingredients.
Food for Life works with schools, nurseries, hospitals and care homes, helping them build knowledge and skills through a ‘whole setting approach’. This engages children and parents, staff, patients and visitors, caterers, carers and the wider community to create a powerful voice for long-term change.
Electricity Generation
NH Case have installed solar panels on both the Warminster and Grimsby sites generating our own electricity. In Grimsby 41.7% of the requirements are met by our solar panel and in Warminster 25.6%. From Easter to October we are not relying on power from the grid between the hours of 9am – 4pm.

Fare Share

NH case work with Fare Share to donate any surplus stock.
Fare Share is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, they take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to nearly 8,000 frontline charities and community groups.
The food they redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week they provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people.
NH Case have donated 2.5 tonnes of food helping to make 5580 meals in the first 4 months of the partnership.
