In 2020 the NHS became the world’s first health system to commit to reaching net zero and take action to reduce the future impacts of climate change. As a supplier to the NHS we realise the important part that we play in realising this goal and are making tangible, target-led changes within our business.
A brief update on what we have been up to…
Focussing on our ready-meal product development, we have looked into ways to make dishes more carbon neutral. We have found wins in replacing meat protein with pulse-based and plant-based ingredients, for example in our new Low Carbon Lasagne.
We are also careful to use sustainable ingredients, such as the white fish Hoki which is a highly regenerative species from New Zealand and one that we import ourselves.
We are also working through our product range to calculate the carbon value of each product. This is a great way to communicate the ‘food print’ to our customers so that they in turn can make informed decisions and plan their menus to reach carbon goals.
These are just a few of the actions that we are undertaking with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and helping our customers achieve the same.
